The war in Ukraine continues to be on our minds and in our hearts. Many of our ancestors emigrated from Ukraine relatively recently after centuries of shtetl life. We have partnered with my rabbinical school YCT for a learning session on Monday, March 14th at 9:00am JST focused on the Torah of Ukraine. The event will feature Professor Susannah Heschel (daughter of Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel), Rabbi David Maayan and my personal Rebbe, Rabbi Ysoscher Katz. Registration required to access the Zoom link.
Beyond learning Torah, our Purim Matanot l’Evyonim Tzedaka campaign is supporting World Jewish Relief’s Ukraine Crisis Appeal. Please reply to this email or message kyokojcc@gmail.com with the amount of your donation, and it will be added as a chit to your JCC bill or donate directly to the organization in USD here.
Thank you to the Greenfield, Halpern and Bleiweis families for sponsoring our Purim Bash! We are expecting a larger crowd than first anticipated (BH!) so if you would like to contribute, please reply to this e-mail.

Announcements
Passover is fast approaching and we are excited to share that for the first time since 2019, the JCC will host two in-person seders. Details to follow in the coming weeks.
Mazal Tov to our community for being featured in Yeshivat Chovevei Torah’s upcoming ‘Evening of Inspiration’ on Monday, April 4th 10am JST. Apparently, the larger Jewish World/Die Yiddishe Velt has taken an interest in us. As part of the evening’s (our morning’s) program, my rabbinical school will screen a video in which our president David Semaya and I share pre-recorded reflections on what makes being Jewish in Japan such a special experience with the backdrop of Tokyo behind us. Reservations begin at $36.
Yiddish Club with Jack Halpern: Meetings have started monthly in-person at the JCJ. Please contact Jack at jack@cjki.org if you are interested to join. All levels are welcome, from beginner to advanced. Much more than just language, the club enjoys exploring Yiddish culture as well.
